Why Starting Again Was the Best Career Move I’ve Made
Before joining Investigo, I already had recruitment experience and had run my own desk. I joined with three years’ experience as a tech and transformation contract recruitment consultant in the Netherlands.
In December 2024, I joined Investigo Amsterdam as part of the founding team, when the office first opened. Although Investigo was an established business, the Amsterdam office was new, which meant joining a new market, new team, and new environment.
Starting again was both enjoyable and challenging. As Brenda put it, it felt like a roller coaster — but a fun one. In the first period, everything had to be built again, and that required being consistent and motivating yourself. But once that phase passed, things began to move quickly, and successes started to come.
What’s been key to my success so far
Consistency has been important, but so has the people around me. I work with very senior people who are highly skilled at what they do, and I’ve learned a lot from them.
There’s a strong emphasis on communication — speaking with everyone, asking questions, and getting support when you need it rather than trying to do everything alone.

During my job search, Investigo stood out because the process felt warm and open, and I felt taken seriously.
Rather than only speaking to a recruiter, I was flown to the UK and met people across the business. Everyone wanted to meet me, which gave me the feeling that I would be joining a successful company where people genuinely care about who they hire.

There’s space to find creative approaches, see what works for you, and develop within the business. In contrast to previous roles that felt very strict and prescriptive — almost like school — this environment allows you to grow without being forced into rigid ways of working.
