Finding My Way Into Recruitment
After graduating from university, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do. I started out in a face-to-face sales role, which taught me a lot about winning, losing, and how motivating commission can be. I loved the buzz of closing deals and getting results, and it suited my personality but being commission-only wasn’t sustainable long term.
I then joined a competitor, working on the part-qualified finance interim desk. It was fast-paced, required quick decisions, and suited my energy. I spent two years there building experience and momentum before leaving to go travelling.
What’s driven my success so far
A strong work ethic and resilience have been key. But just as important is the ability to build relationships. People buy from people — CVs alone aren’t enough. Fostering genuine relationships, being consistent, and showing up properly makes a huge difference. Opportunity comes when people trust you, and that trust is built over time through effort and reliability.
Why Investigo stood out
At the end of 2022, Liam Thomas, one of the directors, reached out to me. I had met with a lot of competitors to really assess what would be the best place would be for me. What stood out about Investigo was the standard. It’s a high-performance environment with very high expectations, both culturally and professionally. You earn your respect here, but people are open, approachable and always willing to answer questions.
What it’s like working at Investigo
Success is recognised, and the culture is transparent. You genuinely get out what you put in. If you do the right things consistently, you’ll be promoted and given opportunities. I’ve recently been on the High Achievers trip skiing, which reinforced that effort is noticed and rewarded but also I met people across various business areas.
There’s strong team support, but you’re also encouraged to take ownership and keep pushing for results. The barriers are high, which means you’re surrounded by very good people in a truly high-performance environment.
The opportunities you’re given
You’re afforded great opportunities from day one. There are established networks to tap into, which makes a huge difference and you’re given the freedom to go for it. The relationships within the business can be leveraged immediately and the financial incentives allow you to benefit hugely from your efforts.
There’s trust and autonomy - no micromanagement - and open conversations are encouraged. You’re treated like an adult, trusted to deliver, and supported while you do it.
